John Farrell: Ortiz To Sit Out A Couple Days While He Works On Swing
BOSTON (CBS) - Slugger David Ortiz just hasn't quite been himself this season.
The Red Sox designated hitter is struggling, to say the least. He's in the midst of a 1-for-20 slump in his last five games, and his average has dropped from .250 to .216 in his last 18 games. Ortiz also has just six home runs and is slugging a mere .377 on the season.
As a result, manager John Farrell will hold Ortiz out of the lineup for the next couple of days.
In an interview with Entercom Radio in Boston Thursday afternoon, Farrell revealed that Ortiz will be given some time off while he works on his swing. Ortiz later told reporters in Texas he was dealing with the flu, and to stay away from him.
The Red Sox began a four-game series in Texas on Thursday night, where Ortiz has a 1.029 career OPS.
