Joe Kennedy Still Has $2.1M In Campaign War Chest
BOSTON (AP) - Former U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy is sitting on a campaign war chest of more than $2 million, even as he insists he's not interested in running again for elected office.
Kennedy has $2.1 million in his campaign account according to his latest filing with the Federal Election Commission, even though he hasn't served in Congress since he decided not to seek re-election in 1998.
FEC records show Kennedy has used his campaign account to make donations to other candidates and the Democratic Party.
A recent poll by Suffolk University showed that among Democrats, Kennedy had the best shot at defeating GOP Sen. Scott Brown next year.
Kennedy, chairman of the nonprofit Citizens Energy, has said he's not interested in running against Brown.
A spokesman for Kennedy declined comment.
