Jerry Remy Releases Statement After Son Is Charged With Murder
BOSTON (CBS) – Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy released a statement after his son Jared was charged with murdering his girlfriend.
"My thoughts and prayers go out to Jenn Martel and her family. Words cannot describe my wife's and my grief.
Son or not, I am at a loss for words in articulating my disgust and remorse over this senseless and tragic act.
We are heartbroken."
Jared Remy, 34, pleaded not guilty Friday on murder and assault and battery charges in the death of 27-year-old Jennifer Martel. Police were called to a home in the Windsor Village apartment complex in Waltham around 9 p.m. Thursday for a report of a person stabbed.
The couple's four-year-old daughter was in the apartment at the time of the alleged attack but was not hurt.
Remy is being held without bail.
Dennis Eckersley is filling in for Jerry Remy during NESN broadcasts for the next week.
