Jermaine Jones Eager To Return For Revolution
BOSTON (CBS) -- Though he's still a few weeks away from seeing any game action, Jermaine Jones has joined his New England Revolution teammates at Gillette Stadium.
Jones, who has been recovering from sports hernia surgery with rehab specialists from the U.S. Men's National Team for the last few weeks, returned to Gillette on Thursday, and sounded confident that he'll be on the field with his teammates soon when speaking with reporters on Friday.
"I'm happy the pain is away, now it's just a week or two weeks," Jones said in a video posted on the Revolution's website. "It's nice to be back with the boys, back on the pitch."
Jones will again be a spectator Saturday afternoon when the Revs host the San Jose Earthquakes, still in search of their first win of the season -- and first goal of the season.
Watching his team struggle from afar has been the toughest part of Jones' rehab.
"You're a member of the team so you want to help them do everything to get the points," he said, adding he hasn't seen the trust on the field that sparked New England's run to the MLS Cup last season. "So far what I've seen is we've had a lot of chances but we haven't put them in. We need to believe in everybody and we can win these games. You saw it a lot last season; we went down a goal but we'd always come back. Everyone had the trust in everyone, and maybe that's missing a bit right now.
"But if you get that one win, it's a wake-up and can change everything."
Jones' return would certainly provide a spark for the 0-2-1 Revolution. Once he arrived last August, the club went on a 9-1-2 run with him in the starting lineup. That only loss was to the L.A. Galaxy in the MLS Cup.
That loss is what has Jones eager to return as soon as possible.
"That's what pushed me this season," he said. "I want to go there again, and this time get that cup."
