Jays Down Sox 3-2 In Series Finale

Travis Snider knocked in all 3 runs for the Blue Jays as they beat the Red Sox 3-2 at Fenway Park on Wednesday afternoon. Tim Wakefield lasted seven innings, allowing 3 runs on five hits and one walk. He also struck out five. Snider doubled home Lyle Overbay in the 5th innings for Toronto's first run. In the 7th, Snider hit a 2-run homer run to deep right field. Wakefield struck out Vernon Wells to end the top of the fourth inning for his 2,000th career strikeout.

Blue Jays starter Shaun Marcum went 7 scoreless innings, only allowing 2 hits and striking out 6. Both hits that Marcum allowed came off the bat of David Ortiz. The Red Sox were able to score 2 runs in the 9th. Red Sox manager Terry Francona was ejected in the inning. Ortiz was called out on strikes on a pitch that was clearly outside which brought Francona out of the dugout. The skipper wasn't thrown out until he came back out onto the field one batter later when Adrian Beltre had a strike called on him when he tried to hold up his swing. The Red Sox have Thursday off before they start a weekend series in Detroit against the Tigers.
