James Stewart & Andy Gresh Preview Wrestlemania XXX
BOSTON (CBS) - It's podcast that's been three years in the making, as Andy Gresh and Jimmy Stewart finally got together to talk about WrestleMania XXX. Gresh introduced them as, "The Daniel Bryan of the podcast world. It's a slow burn, and the people have been waiting."
Right off the bat the guys got into the match card and how they felt about it. They both agreed that headlining matches like Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena were going to be great, but Gresh had an issue with the under-card. He doesn't like the four-man tag team match with diluted talent in it, and says that this Mania "Doesn't have a super-show feel to it."
Both hosts believe that this could be a product of the WWE trying to sell their new WWE Network, as opposed to selling the individual pay-per-view in the fashion that they're used to.
One of the biggest storylines heading into WrestleMania is Daniel Bryan's "YES Movement." Bryan has quickly become a fan favorite, and has a chance to wrestle for the World Heavyweight Championship in a Triple Threat Match against Randy Orton and Batista if he can first knock-off Triple-H in one-on-one action.
Stewart had a blunt take on the main event.
"If Daniel Bryan doesn't win there's going to be a riot."
Hardcore wrestling fans that fill-up arenas have all seemingly moved into Bryan's corner, and have taken over shows in recent weeks with their chanting.
However, the WWE brass seems to be trying to also draw to the casual fan by bringing back a wrestler like Batista that can boost television ratings. Stewart believes that catering to both simply cannot work.
He didn't believe the WWE even wanted Bryan in the Main Event, but their hand was forced when CM Punk walked out. With die-hard fans at the last two pay-per-views chanting "CM PUNK!" because of the superstar's absence, their hand was forced for WrestleMania and they had to include a crowd favorite in the Title Match, despite his inability to move as much merchandise.
They can't have widespread dissension plaguing the broadcast in their Super Bowl, as the chanting cast a dark cloud over the Elimination Chamber last month.
The conversation then shifted to the Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar, with the dead man defending the most impressive streak in sports: his 21-0 record at WrestleMania. However, the consensus was that the Undertaker can't steal the show anymore at his age, especially not with a wrestler like Brock.
It'll come out looking like a bloody fight rather than an great match, because neither excels at combat in the ring anymore.
Then they guys broke out the time machines, and moved on to their favorite WrestleMania moments of all-time, and perhaps even more entertainingly, the worst.
For a sleeper match at this year's WrestleMania, Gresh picked the New Age Outlaws taking on the Shield due to time winding down on the Outlaws and the proficiency of the Shield. The podcast concluded with Gresh and Stewart picking their four dream matches with any wrestlers of all time, and there were definitely some interesting choices.
