James Brown On Gresh & Zo: Patriots 'Closest Thing' To A Dynasty
BOSTON (CBS) - James Brown of CBS Sports hopped on the Gresh & Zo show Monday morning following the Patriots improbable come-from-behind overtime win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football.
It was a "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" type game for the Patriots, starting the game with three fumbles on their first three drives of the game, and then scoring five straight times to open the second half. Down by a score of 24-0 heading into halftime, the prospects of a Patriots win were slim to none.
"I could not believe that," said Brown. "I'm thinking down 24 to nothing, Broncos have got it going, what in the world are the Patriots going to do? And then they come out like that in the second half...I would love to have been a fly on the wall in the Patriots locker room to hear what Bill Belichick said to get those guys fired up."
The Patriots defense allowed just seven points in the second half, and the game went into overtime tied at 31-31. The Pats won the coin toss in the extra period, but coach Bill Belichick elected to defer and let Peyton Manning's offense work into the blistering, 20+ mph wind gusts instead of just taking the ball to start.

The gutsy called paid off.
A misplayed punt by the Broncos late in the overtime period led to a New England fumble recovery by Nate Ebner, which set up a 31-yard game-winning field goal for kicker Stephen Gostkowski.
James Brown praised New England for their efforts and ability to fight back and win under the circumstances. For JB, the Patriots are in a class of their own.
"This is the one team in this era of designed parity, and maybe some folks will say that's a politically correct term for 'mediocrity', the closest thing that you will have to a dynasty is the New England Patriots," said Brown.
Adding, "Never ever count these guys out...ever."
This led into a discussion about the current state of the AFC playoff picture, and which teams are contenders and pretenders.
Between Denver and New England, is this simply a two-team race in the AFC?
"From a big picture standpoint one would say so. However, I truly believe in the notion of 'any given Sunday.'"
