Suspect Dead After Firing Shots At Police In Jamaica Plain
BOSTON (CBS) – A man accused of opening fire at Boston Police officers during a standoff was found dead inside a bed and breakfast in Jamaica Plain.
The incident began late Saturday night on Wyman Street when officers responded to a domestic dispute.
When police arrived, officers said the suspect fired several shots.
"At one point, this suspect appeared at the front window, smashing the window and brandishing a firearm in the direction of Boston Police officers," said Boston Police Commissioner William Gross. "Being in fears of not only the lives of residents in that building, in the neighborhood, and in fear of their own lives, an officer discharged his department issued firearm in the direction of that male suspect."
Boston Police said 15-20 people, including a senior citizen and a baby, had to be evacuated from the building. Police recovered two guns at the scene.
On Sunday, those guests returned to get their luggage. "I just feel sorry for the people involved and my heart is breaking for the people who live here," one man said.
An investigation is underway to determine exactly how the man died.
Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins said her office is in the "initial stages" of its investigation.
"I want to commend the Boston Police Department and their coordinated multi-unit and jurisdictional response during this dangerous and tense incident and for successfully evacuating the more than 20 guests who were staying at the establishment," said Rollins.
Neighbors said the bed and breakfast opened about a year ago and has caused some issues. "With the parking and with people parking in other people's driveways, having to call the police in order for us to get out and they're coming in late hours of the night, knocking on the doors," one woman said.
