Ipswich Fire Chief Arrested On Domestic Violence Charges
IPSWICH (CBS) – The Ipswich fire chief is off the job after he was arrested on domestic violence charges.
The original charge is from last year, but Greg Gagnon was arrested by Dracut Police at his Dracut home following reports of another incident this week.
Ispwich Town Manager Robin Crosbie confirmed to WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Karyn Regal that fire chief Greg Gagnon is on paid administrative leave.
Ipswich resident Linda Como is shocked and says it's worse for someone in authority.
"For a person in authority I think that's just really low," Como said.
She also says she glad that Gagnon is now off the job.
"They're supposed to be protecting us. This is a quiet town and that's one of the reasons I live here. For something like that to happen, it does shock me," Como said.
Ipswich resident Tess Buccigrosso says she's disappointed the fire chief could be accused of such an aggressive act of violence.
"Obviously as a woman that's pretty upsetting. As a resident of Ipswich it's pretty upsetting, as well," Buccigrosso said.
Crosbie said Gagnon would stay on leave pending this investigation and investigations into other incidents.
The Middlesex District Attorney's office confirms that Gagnon is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, witness intimidation, and two counts of assault and battery on a household member.
Gagnon is being held without bail and he will be arraigned in Lowell District Court Monday for the strangulation charge.
Gagnon was hired as fire chief in 2014 after becoming a fire captain in Dracut after 20 years in that department.
