Massachusetts State Police said a preliminary investigation shows the 2004 Ford Econoline van was driving north when it was hit by a 2018 Toyota RAV 4, which was traveling in the adjacent lane.

After impact, both vehicles careened over the median. The van rolled over and crashed in the southbound lanes while the Toyota did not roll over. It came to a rest in the breakdown lane on I-95 South.

Portions of the van's roof were ripped off.

First responders from several agencies responded, and they credited bystanders who were first at the scene for their life-saving efforts.

All occupants in the van were taken to Rhode Island Hospital. The Toyota driver, a 32-year-old woman from East Providence, was treated at Rhode Island Hospital for minor injuries.

No charges have been filed, and the accident is under investigation.

The van was operating as part of a Polish-American tour group. The tour may have picked up passengers in Philadelphia; Trenton, Linden and Wallington, New Jersey; and New York City, with a destination of various sites in Massachusetts.
