Intel Closing Its Plant In Hudson
BOSTON (CBS) - The largest maker of computer chips in the world is closing down its manufacturing plant in Hudson.
The facility will close by the end of next year. Intel's Chuck Mulloy tells me 700 jobs will be cut.
"It doesn't mean we're leaving Massachusetts," he says. "We have more than 800 employees at a microprocessor design center there."

Mulloy says the Hudson plant is the only 200 millimeter operating factory in Intel's network.
"It's older technology, it's older wafer sizes, it's older process. It doesn't fit in the road map for the kind of manufacturing we do today. It's a very good factory, it just runs older manufacturing processes."
Mulloy says the first 100 workers will be laid off before the end of the year.
"We give employees a chance," he says. "There's a benefits package available, including severance."
Health benefits and outplacement services are also available.
"They can also enter a redeployment pool, and look for another job within Intel."
Mulloy says Intel will try to sell the Hudson factory for future chip manufacturing.
