Inside BC Football: Eagles Have Moved On From Wake Forest Loss, Focused On Clemson
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston College Eagles quickly moved on from last Saturday's loss to Wake Forest.
But that doesn't mean they didn't revisit the devastating turn of events that led to the 3-0 defeat, dropping them to 3-3 on the season and 0-3 in ACC play. The Eagles had a chance to walk away with a victory against the Demon Deacons, with a fumble giving them one final chance to find the end zone with under a minute left. But after a trio of runs set them up on the one-yard line, quarterback Jeff Smith didn't see the game clock was about to hit zero and spiked the ball with no time left, ending any chance BC had at their first conference win of the season.
"It's hard to sit here and say everyone is not hurting, including our coaching staff. But in the same breathe life moves on, football season moves on," Eagles head coach Steve Addazio told WBZ-TV's Levan Reid on this week's Inside BC Football. "We're playing such a big-time team down in Clemson on a Saturday night that you really have to get back into it. You have to get going and that's what we're doing. We're trying to take what we can, learn what we can, grow from it and get ready to play the next opponent."
Addazio said the blunder at the end of last week's game was addressed in the meeting room, but he urged his kids to avoid listening to other outside noise.
"The film doesn't lie and the kids know. There are outside forces, but when you go into the sanctum of the meeting rooms and show the video; when you can show where the problems are and it's not about a guy getting physically handled but how to execute better -- they understand that," he said. "If you keep it real, they can appreciate that. If you go in and try to play mind games with people, then you're just full of BS and that's not what it's about."
The Eagles had to move on quickly, with focus shifting to a tough matchup Saturday night against the 5-0 Clemson Tigers in Death Valley. BC's top-ranked defense, which is allowing 98.7 pass yards and 41.7 rush yards per game this season, will face off against an offense averaging 35.4 points and 431.8 yards per game.
"When you go on the road you pack your defense, and I think we have a hell of a defense. You pack your run game, which believe it or not, we have the 24th ranked run game right now," said Addazio. "And you bring your special teams."

Addazio and the Eagles put in some extra work dealing with crowd noise this week, something the head coach said they struggled with last Saturday in from of a home crowd, resulting in a few pre-snap penalties. He didn't give anything away in regards to who will be playing quarterback come Saturday, but said on offense the plan is to keep things simple.
"We're going to try to keep things simple with minimal checks," he said. "We're going to try to keep it simple so we can play fast and play confidently."
Addazio went into further detail about the end of last Saturday's loss, and also shares a love of a certain pie with Levan Reid in this week's Inside BC Football! Catch Inside BC Football every Friday night on the WBZ-TV News at 10 on myTV38!
