Inside BC Football: 'Disappointing And Unacceptable' Year For Eagles
BOSTON (CBS) -- The 2015 season ended in disappointing fashion for the Boston College Eagles, who finished the year 3-9 and will not be playing in a bowl game for the first time under head coach Steve Addazio.
The Eagles played tough throughout the season, with five of their losses by three points or less, but the head coach says they must find a way to win those close games in the future if they want to enjoy any success.
"I think that tells the tale of our season. Those are games that you have to find a way to win and this year we didn't do that," Addazio told Steve Burton for Friday night's edition of Inside BC Football on myTV38. "You think of a three-win team and you think they're terrible and got blown out. We have some things that aren't very good, but we were in every single game and were competitive. We have to find a way to win."
That's the task Addazio faces this offseason. While the BC defense was among the best in the country, he points to young and inexperienced play at quarterback and along the offensive line for the team's inability to score points on offense.
But Addazio isn't one to make excuses.
"Everything about the program this offseason will be directed at the intangible things we can do to grab those games," he said. "This was a disappointing and unacceptable year."
While the sting is deep, so too is the fire to turn things around. That will lead to some very hard days for Addazio, his staff and players this winter and next summer, but that should be expected given how the Eagles finished this season. Addazio hopes that will just make them stronger when they take the field in 2016.
"I've never been more determined, more energized and feel like I've had more edge than I have right now. I want to attack this thing every single day. I'm an involved guy but I'm going to get more involved. I want to challenge our team every day for accountability, for toughness, for finish and bringing out team closer together," he said. "I'm at a fever pitch right now in terms of getting back and developing this football team. I want to push that energy into our coaching staff and team, and I know they feel it right now.
"I'm just not happy, nor should I be and nor should anybody be. I don't want anyone in this program to feel content right now. We're sitting at home and not going to a bowl game. That's devastating to me," he said. "When things don't work, you have change. I want everyone on the edge of their seat – players and coaches alike. That's where we're headed."
