Indoor Mask Mandate In Boston Begins Friday
BOSTON (CBS) -- The mask mandate in Boston officially began Friday. It applies to all indoor public spaces regardless of vaccination status.
Acting Mayor Kim Janey made the announcement one week ago.
Exceptions to the mask mandate include places of worship, private offices, gatherings at private residences, and for all performers, as long as they stay six feet away from their audience.
"It's frustrating being that they took it away and now they're bringing it back," said Dana Drewer. "It's frustrating. But I'd rather they do that than me die in the streets."
At Viscelli Salon on Newbury Street, many were not aware that masks were required to enter the salon. "They've been a little confused. People aren't used to it, but they're getting used to it as the day goes on. People keep saying, 'Oh yeah it's Friday. It's starting up today," said one stylist.
"A piece of cloth on their face," said one man on the street. "Two of the vaccines come from companies that have roots in Boston. Smart people here. Wicked smart vaccines."
While some people are frustrated by the return of an indoor mask mandate, others say they don't mind.
"There are kids that haven't been vaccinated. I think we just have to be careful. And it's really not much to ask," said Aliya Page.
The first big test will be the Eagles concert at TD Garden on Friday and Saturday. In order to attend, concertgoers will also have to provide proof of a negative COVID test or full vaccination.
