Indians Pranked Fausto Carmona/Roberto Hernandez With Three Birthday Cakes
BOSTON (CBS) -- For the 50-55 Cleveland Indians, the clubhouse this season has probably not produced too many belly laughs among players. There was, however, at least one, and it came at the expense of the pitcher formerly known as Fausto Carmona.
Carmona, of course, was discovered to have used false identification in order to obtain a visa. His real name is Roberto Hernandez Heredia, and he is apparently three years older than he claimed to be as Fausto Carmona. The pitcher was finally granted the right to return to baseball last month, but not until he served a suspension.
Before that suspension, when Hernandez first appeared in the Indians clubhouse this season, fellow pitcher Derek Lowe said the team had a little fun with Hernandez.
"The day he got there," Lowe said Thursday on Felger & Massarotti, "they brought out a cake to celebrate his 28th birthday, then they brought out a cake to celebrate his 29th birthday, and then they brought out another cake to celebrate his 30th birthday.
"It was a funny day when they gave him three birthday cakes."
The birth date for Carmona was listed in 1983, while the birth date for Hernandez is 1980.
