Independents Outnumber Democrats, GOP In Mass.
BOSTON (AP) - Independent voters continue to outnumber enrolled Republican and Democratic voters in Massachusetts.
The Massachusetts Secretary of State Office says nearly 52 percent of the nearly 4.2 million registered voters in the state aren't enrolled in any party.
Democrats come in second with 36 percent of voters. Republicans account for just 11 percent.
Suffolk County, which includes the city of Boston, has the highest level of Democrats with nearly 55 percent.
Barnstable County on Cape Cod is the state's GOP stronghold with nearly 17 percent enrolled Republicans.
Unenrolled or independent voters are considered the key to any statewide election, including this year's hotly contested race for governor and several key congressional contests.
