In The Line Of Fire

The current orientation of the jetstream has positioned us within the 'line of fire.'

It's a progressive flow so these disturbances are in and out rather quickly.

Yesterday was a beauty as high temperatures rose into the middle and upper 50s!

Today will be the last of the mild weather as temperatures head into the lower and middle 50s.

Watch Melissa's forecast:

A cloudy start with a few showers will make way for gradual clearing this afternoon, which is nearly a carbon copy of yesterday's forecast.

However, clouds will fill-in tonight as a more potent storm system heads this way from the Great Plains.

Between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Friday, the precipitation will begin.

It's going to come in 2 waves.

This is a tricky precipitation-type forecast as we calculate overnight lows in conjunction with the placement of the warm front.

At the moment, it looks like neighborhoods located from the Merrimack Valley to the Mass Pike and points north may begin as a rain/snow mix.

It will most likely start off as snow for north-central Mass. and the cities and towns in southern New Hampshire.

Southeastern Mass. should be mainly a rain event.

As the morning heads into midday, most areas will have switched over to all rain.

That being said, it still seems very possible for southern New Hampshire to still be the focal point for a rain/snow mix.

The North Shore to Boston to Worcester may see a quick slushy coating from the quick burst of snow initially.

North central Mass. to southern New Hampshire will have the potential for 1-3 inches of snow.

The models will come into better agreement throughout the day, so stay up-to-date with our WBZ Accuweather forecasts right here on cbsboston.com, on Twitter @WBZWeather, and on our WBZ Weather Facebook page.

This weekend will be the end result of strong cold air advection.

Saturday will have diurnal clouds with an upper level trough in place.

This will lead to a partly sunny day with very gusty WNW winds and high temperatures in the lower 40s.

On Sunday, bright sunshine will not be able to warm us up past 40F.

The day will start off breezy, but the wind will calm down by the evening.
