Driver killed after in crash on I-95 south in Needham identified
NEEDHAM - The driver who was killed in a crash on I-95 south in Needham early Tuesday morning has been identified.
Massachusetts State Police said 31-year-old Dylan Chaves of Fiskdale died in the crash, which involved two pickup trucks.
A 54-year-old man from Nashua, New Hampshire was seriously hurt.
It happened at about 4:40 a.m. near Exit 33, Massachusetts State Police said. It was raining at the time and the highway was wet.
Investigators say Chaves was driving a 2021 Chevy Colorado pickup truck southbound on I-95 when he lost control, spun into the concrete median barrier, and came to a stop in the left travel lane.
The Nashua man, who was driving a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup truck, was unable to avoid Chaves and slammed into his truck on the driver's side.
Chaves died at the scene while the other driver was hospitalized with serious injuries.
First responders closed three of the four southbound lanes for about two hours for the rescue and investigation. The deadly crash and ensuing traffic backup ended up delaying testimony in the Karen Read murder trial happening in Dedham.
