Hyannis 19-Year-Old Faces Charges In Shooting
BARNSTABLE (CBS) -- A Hyannis man is facing multiple charges after allegedly shooting another man Saturday night at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center parking lot, police said.
At 9:11 p.m. Saturday, police officers were dispatched to the Cape Cod Hospital Emergency Room to investigate a 24-year-old man who had suffered a gunshot wound to his lower body, the Barnstable Police reported Sunday in a prepared statement. The shooting victim, who is "known to law enforcement," was not cooperative with investigators.
At about the same time, other officers were dispatched to the community center on Bassett Lane to investigate a disturbance, which was soon linked to the shooting. The shooting victim allegedly had a confrontation in the community center parking lot with Wallace R. Grace III, 19, of Hyannis, police said. Grace is accused of pulling a gun and firing several shots at the 24-year-old.
Grace was identified as a suspect in the shooting from the community center's video surveillance system, police said. The 19-year-old appeared at the Barnstable Police Station on Sunday morning to turn himself in.
The teen faces charges including armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon (firearm), and unlawful possession of a firearm.
No other suspects were being sought Sunday. The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
Grace will be arraigned in Barnstable District Court on Monday. To provide information on the shooting, contact Barnstable Police Lt. John F. Murphy at murphyj@barnstablepolice.com.
