Husband's Ashes Taken From Haverhill Woman's Moving Sale

HAVERHILL (CBS) - A Haverhill woman said Tuesday she hopes whoever took her late husband's ashes from a moving sale last month returns them.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens reports.

Marcia Amero was married to her husband Hughes for nearly 30 years, but when he died two years ago at the age of 58, she needed to sell their dream home in Georgetown.

"This was our dream house. This was just, even as sick as he was, he had so many ideas of what we could do with the property. We have four and a half acres, and it was everything we had ever wanted together," said Amero.

Last month, Amero had a moving sale.

"I had left in a corner a little box of my husband's ashes. I had some of my things and I had a sign on it - 'Not For Sale' - it was tucked up underneath like you couldn't see it," said Amero.

But, somebody saw the box that contained her husband's ashes, and they apparently took it.

"All I want is my husband's ashes. If you wanna keep the box, that's fine, it's beautiful, but just bring my husband's ashes back. I want 'em back with me," said Amero.

Now getting settled into her new, smaller house in Haverhill, Amero still doesn't feel quite at home yet.

"My eyes are really puffy today because I cried a lot last night, because it just hurts to the core of not having him with me, and I feel like I didn't protect him, and it's just very sad," said Amero.
