Tropical Storm Irene: Reports From The Massachusetts Coast
BOSTON (CBS) - Tropical Storm Irene came and went Sunday, and the Massachusetts coastline, specifically along Buzzard's Bay and Cape Cod, was battered.

SOUTH COAST STORM SURGE
Due to an astronomically high tide combined with the passing tropical storm, a sizable storm surge hit the coast Sunday night, but there was no major flooding as a result.
Meanwhile in Onset, a couple boats came loose from their mooring ended up on the beach.

CLEANUP IN SOUTH YARMOUTH
South Yarmouth was battered all day long by high winds, heavy rains and swelling seas.

The sand was whipping and stinging the skin of WBZ-TV's Sera Congi on the coast as the storm began to move through Sunday morning.

YACHT BEACHED IN MARION
Several people came out in the storm Sunday morning to check on their boats in Marion. One of the boats, a yacht, broke free from its mooring at Tabor Academy during the morning at high tide and swells and drifted up the harbor, finally coming to rest in some marsh.

A professional crew came in to tie the boat down to the land ahead of the nightime high tide.
WBZ-TV's Jim Armstrong said police in Marion had to stop a man from heading out in his rowboat to check on a vessel because the wind and waves were just too dangerous.
The yacht came to rest about 50 yards from the dock.

YARMOUTH DEALS WITH IRENE
At least 75 people have checked into the shelter at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School, and most of them were football players from Austin Prep in Reading who were attending a football camp.
