Hundreds Protest Police Brutality In Boston On MLK Day
BOSTON (CBS) - Hundreds of activists banded together for a four-mile march through the city to protest police brutality on Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday afternoon.
The march began around 1 p.m. at the Old State House on Washington Street and concluded before 3:30 p.m. outside the State House on Beacon Street.
Organizers told WBZ-TV's Paul Burton it would be a peaceful march and they were not looking to cause a major disruption similar to the highway protests last Thursday that caused traffic delays on Interstate 93 during the morning commute in Medford and Milton. Twenty-nine people were arrested during that protest and were arraigned last week.
The protesters stopped in front of the State house and staged a "die-in."
Protesters quoted a speech given by Martin Luther King Jr., saying that this isn't just one protest; this will last years, Burton added. They could also be seen holding signs that say "Black Lives Matter."
