BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) — Authorities say the bones found in a wooded area of Brockton have been confirmed as human.

Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz and Brockton Police Chief Emanuel Gomes said in a joint statement Tuesday that the bones were found late Monday morning by a resident out walking a dog.

Further examination of the bones is planned to determine the identity of the person as well as a cause and manner of death.

No additional information was immediately released, including how long the bones had been in the woods.
