How Moss Could Affect the Draft
Randy Moss has said he will be moving on after his contract is up at the end of the 2010 season. This could impact the upcoming draft in April. Getting a guy in here this season would be smart. It eases the loss of Moss. The player could have a year in the system and time to develope with Tom Brady. Unless the Patriots trade up, Dez Bryant will be off the boards by the time they pick. Two players who could be there are Golden Tate from Notre Dame and Arrelious Benn out of Illinois. Tate is an explosive playmaker with sure hands. He is a smaller player at 5'11'' 195lbs. Tate reminds me a bit of Carolina's Steve Smith. His vertical speed is not as fast as Smith's. Arrelious Benn is a bigger wide receiver at 6'2'' 220lbs. Benn didn't have spectacular numbers in college due to inconsistent quarterback play from Juice Williams. Arrelious can also return kicks on special teams as he did for Illinois. These are two first or early second round options. Other players who could be later round options are Damian Williams from USC. Williams is in between Tate and Benn's size. Mardy Gilyard from Cincinnati is another guy who should come off the boards in the second round. Gilyard was great for the bearcats and excelled at the senior bowl a few weeks ago. Andre Roberts is a player most have not heard of. Roberts is coming from the Citadel and had a very impressive career there. he impressed all week at the senior bowl showing he can play at a higher level. He is a real sleeper in this draft. Andre also can return kicks. Roberts will probably go in the thrid round. The player who I really like in this draft is the diminutive Dexter McCluster from Mississippi. He played running back, wide receiver and quarterback in the wild cat formation. He is only 5'8'' 160lbs. McCluster is extremely fast. I have seen him catch a screen pass in the middle of the field and burn all 11 guys out on defense. He is a threat to score an 80 yard touchdown any time the ball is in his hands. He can be a player who gets 8-10 carries and lines up to catch passes as well. He has no problem running between the tackles. He's a mini Chris Johnson. Dexter McCluster will most likely be a second round pick. If he runs a 4.3 40 yard dash or under he could slip into the first. Jeremy Williams is a similar player to McCluster out of Tulane. The former Green Wave stand out can do a variety of things on the field. He had a couple nice runs and catches at the senior bowl. Williams is bigger than him at 6'1'' 205lbs. Williams could go somewhere in the 3rd or 4th round. It would be smart to get a wide out in here a year before Moss's departure.
