Homeless Man Charged In Hyannis Arson Fires
HYANNIS (CBS) - A 27-year-old homeless man has been arrested in connection with four arson fires in Hyannis this April.
On April 20, there were fires at three homes on Pilgrim Lane and one on Baxter Road. Hyannis Fire says the homes were seasonal residences and were unoccupied at the time. There were signs of forced entry at each of the homes.
Police were able to lift a fingerprint from one of the homes that was set on fire. The print was processed and police began searching for 27-year-old Matthew Pungitore.
Pungitore was arrested by Barnstable Police Sunday on unrelated warrants. He admitted to breaking into the homes and turning on stoves to stay warm. He says at the first home towels somehow caught fire so he left without notifying anyone.
He was charged with four counts of arson and ordered held on $50,000 bail.
