Homeless Boston Vet Overwhelmed By Support
BOSTON (CBS) -- "This one says, 'Thank you for your service to this great country. Your honesty is admirable and inspiring to all.'"
Brian Christopher is reading a card from a complete stranger; and it's hardly the only one he's received in the last 24 hours.
"I'm overwhelmed. The only thing I can say about everything is wow."
WBZ-TV's Peg Rusconi reports.
Christopher has become a minor celebrity for his moral compass.
A homeless Navy veteran, he found a wallet with no ID and lots of cash on a Boston sidewalk. Despite his own need, he brought the wallet to police, who tracked down its rightful owner, a hardworking bike messenger.
Christopher lives at the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, and people moved by his good deed are burning up the phone lines there.
Officials there say they've fielded checks and job and apartment offers.
In fact, the Brooklyn company that designed the wallet Christopher found got word he's an amateur artist. They've offered him the chance to design a wallet.
"It's hard to really know where to start, and who to thank, but I just want to say thank you for your generosity."
He says generous souls might consider donating to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans.
"I would love that. That would be, you know there is so much need, especially at this time of year."
