Napolitano: 'Veterans In Action' During Hurricane Sandy Relief
BOSTON (AP) — U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano speaking at a Northeastern University Veterans Day assembly said she recognizes veterans for not only what they have given, but what they continue to give.
Napolitano said she witnessed "veterans in action" during and in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
Napolitano's appearance came a day after she visited relief workers in a storm-ravaged borough of New York City.

"Whether it be the Department of Defense flying utility crews and their equipment from all over the United States and landing them near the area to veterans helping to give out meals and water, to those who rescued people from rooftops; the Coast Guard participated in 700 rescues over the days immediately following Hurricane Sandy," Napolitano said. " We saw veterans in action."
Napolitano gave her remarks Monday afternoon at the Veterans Memorial at Northeastern.
Northeastern dedicated the memorial in 2006 to honor students and alumni who died while carrying out military duties.
The university's Reserve Officers' Training Corps Alumni Society also plans a candlelight remembrance Monday to honor veterans.
Northeastern officials say faculty members are active in research that relates to national security, including explosives detection, cyber defense, robotics and data security.
