Holyoke Police K9 Stabbed By Robbery Suspect
HOLYOKE, Mass. (CBS/AP) — A Holyoke police dog stabbed by a robbery suspect has been released from an animal hospital after getting seven stitches in its back.
Police Lt. Isaias Cruz says police were called to a McDonald's restaurant in the city at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday for reports of an armed robbery nearby. Police say two suspects used a knife to rob two youths outside the restaurant.
Officers chased two suspects and Jori caught up with one of them. The suspect then stabbed the dog.
Chief James Neiswanger tells Westernmassnews.com that Jori was stabbed between the shoulder blades and there was a lot of blood, but the dog is expected to survive.
"Despite his injuries, K9 Jori was still able to successfully apprehend the suspect," Holyoke police said on Facebook. "Let's wish K9 Jori a speedy and healthy recovery."
The robbery suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment of bite wounds. No names were released.
Jori is expected to miss about 10 days of work.
