Man Shot Dead At Holiday Inn Express In Dorchester

BOSTON (CBS) -- A man was shot and killed at the Holiday Inn Express in Dorchester early Tuesday morning, according to Boston Police.

Officers were called to the hotel on Boston Street in the South Bay Center around 4:20 a.m. to investigate a report of a shooting.

They found a man in his 20's dead from multiple gunshot wounds in a room on the fifth floor.

Boston Police Commissioner Bill Evans said someone pulled the fire alarm and it was a chaotic scene.

The lobby filled with dozens of people rushing to safety.

"I woke up at the fire alarm," said Sei Nakamura, a guest in the hotel who was visiting from Japan. "I thought it was a joke and I didn't think it was real, but when the police came we were scared ... In Japan there's no guns, so I was very scared."

Evans said it appears the man was targeted. At least two people ran away from the hotel after the shooting.

Police are looking at surveillance video and interviewing witnesses.

"We're trying to piece it together right now," Evans told reporters. "It wasn't random by any means."

There have been no arrests.

No other information is available at this point in the investigation.

"The Holiday Inn Express – Boston hotel holds the safety, security and well-being of our guests and employees as our top priority and concern," the hotel's general manager said in a statement to WBZ-TV.

"We are saddened by this news, and our thoughts are with the young man and his family during this difficult time. The hotel staff will continue to cooperate fully with authorities in their investigation. All further questions should be directed to the Boston Police Department."
