FBI Employee Charged With Pointing Gun At Woman Inside Hingham Restaurant
BOSTON (CBS) – An FBI employee is facing charges after he allegedly pointed a gun at a woman's head inside a Hingham restaurant.
James Doyle, 55, of Duxbury, was arrested following a Tuesday night incident at the Gourmet Garden Restaurant.
Police were called to the restaurant after a person witnessed Doyle allegedly pointing his gun at a woman.
The bartender, Sing La, told WBZ two couples came in about 30 minutes apart, and both appeared intoxicated. "The lady was kind of yelling at the second couple, saying 'Why do you follow me around?' and stuff like that," recalled La.
According to police, that's when Doyle got up and pointed the gun at the woman's head.
When officers arrived, Doyle was still seated inside the bar, allegedly intoxicated.
No one was injured in the incident. According to Hingham Police, Doyle knew the woman who he allegedly pointed the gun at.
Police say Doyle was registered to carry the gun.
Harold Shaw, Special Agent in Charge for the FBI, issued a statement Wednesday night on the incident, calling it a personnel matter.
The FBI takes allegations of misconduct very seriously. We are aware of the matter involving the recent arrest of an FBI employee and are fully cooperating with the Hingham, MA Police Department and the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office. This matter has been referred to the FBI's Internal Investigations Section in Washington, DC, as well as the Department of Justice's Office of Inspector General. Because this is an ongoing personnel matter, we will not comment further.
Doyle faces charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, being a licensee carrying a firearm while intoxicated, and disorderly conduct.
He was released Tuesday night and arraigned on Wednesday.
"It's the law, you're not supposed to do that. You've got to obey the law even if you're law enforcement," said La.
