High Voter Turnout Expected In Massachusetts
BOSTON (CBS) - In the final sprint before Election Day, the candidates are crisscrossing the state and urging supporters to get out the vote.
The Secretary of State's office predicts a high voter turnout.
Secretary Bill Galvin projects a turnout in excess of 2.4 million registered voters.
He tells WBZ News Radio it's been twenty years since voter turnout was projected to be this high in a mid-term election.
"That's a very high number for a gubernatorial election. Traditionally, the gubernatorial election usually draws in the area of 2.2 million. The last time we had a turnout reach this number was in 1990."
Galvin is himself up for re-election. He's being challenged by republican William Campbell and James Henderson who is un-enrolled.
Nationwide, the mid-term elections are expected to draw big numbers, with republicans looking to win back the house and make strides in governor's races across the country.
