High Voter Turnout Expected For Casino Vote In Milford
MILFORD (CBS) --- Officials are expecting record turnout for Tuesday's casino vote.
People on both sides of the issue took to the streets Monday to voice their feelings about the $1 billion proposed casino run by Foxwoods.
Seventy-five percent of voters are expected to cast ballots, which means the decision may come down to a couple of thousand votes.
Those opposed to the casino are concerned about traffic, crime and property values.
They say the failed casino vote in East Boston has them hopeful.
"That thing was supposed to be a shoe-in and the people voted against it," Steve Trettel said.
Stephen Crosby, chairman of the commission says they aren't backing down.
The $1 billion proposal includes a resort casino, hotel and retail stores.
Supporters say the casino would bring jobs to the area.
"We've already put up that we're going to have a million dollar a year scholarship program for students that graduate from Milford High," David Nunes of Foxwoods said.
Tuesday's ballot has just one yes-or-no question.
