Heyman With Gresh & Zo: Do The Red Sox Want Ellsbury Back?
BOSTON (CBS) - Before this season, many had come to the conclusion that Jacoby Ellsbury would no longer be donning a Boston uniform once he hit free agency this winter.
But CBS Sports' baseball insider Jon Heyman says that may not be the case.
"They've guarded against those $100-million contracts since the (Carl) Crawford deal, and to a lesser degree the Adrian Gonzalez deal, didn't work out. But I think they are interested," Heyman said Tuesday on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Gresh & Zolak. "Obviously (Jackie) Bradley is a backup possibility, but he's unproven as a Major League center fielder. We're talking about a leadoff hitter that's very good. I know there's been a little bit of up and down stuff with Ellsbury over his Red Sox career, but my indication is they would like to get him back."
They also discussed rookie Xander Bogaerts playing over Stephen Drew, the return of pitcher Clay Buchholz, and the comments David Ortiz made about teammate Ryan Dempster hitting Alex Rodriguez.
Around the game, Gresh & Zo ask Heyman if we should expect any movement at the waiver deadline on August 31, and the MVP prospects of Baltimore's Chris Davis.
