Heyman On Gresh & Zo: Is Pedroia Worth Big Payday From Red Sox?
BOSTON (CBS) - Dustin Pedroia is reportedly close to getting a long-term, big money contract from the Boston Red Sox.
The second baseball will reportedly get $20-million annually from Boston, a high price tag for a middle infielder. But CBS Sports Baseball Insider Jon Heyman says Pedroia is worth it.
"If you have a star like Dustin Pedroia, that's the going rate," he told 98.5 The Sports Hub's Gresh & Zolak on Tuesday. "I would expect nothing less; he's the heart of the team, an all-star and one of the better players in the league – a former MVP."
Heyman also touched on the ongoing Biogenesis scandal, most notably the suspension of Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun. How could that affect Alex Rodriguez and other notable players linked to the clinic?
Trade deadline talk is also heating up around baseball, and Heyman gives the latest on a potential reunion for Alfonso Soriano and the Yankees, and which pitcher is big name on the market now that Matt Garza has landed in Texas.
