Heyman On Gresh & Zo: Can The Sox Catch The Yankees?
Zolak and Goucher talked with CBS Sports' Baseball Insider Jon Heyman on Tuesday, who is in Kansas City for all the All-Star game fun.
The New York Yankees are at the top of the AL East and hold a 9.5 game lead over the Red Sox. Is there any chance Boston catches New York for the division?
"At this point they don't look that catchable to me,' said Heyman, "but the good news is there are wild cards; two of them this year."
The Sox are sitting at .500 at the halfway point of the season, but where do they go from here? Do they just wait for injured players to return and hope they can contribute or do they go out and make a move before the trade deadline?
"Starting pitching is their issue and I think they need to scour the market and see if they can come up with one that's going to make a difference," said Heyman. "Potentially, there are a couple of guys out there that could make a difference but we're not sure if even they are going to get traded at this point."
The guys also touched on David Ortiz's comments about his contract negotiations and the way the Sox handled them prior to this season. Plus, should Carl Crawford just get surgery and stop trying to come back this season?
