Here We Go Again

Round and round we go!  An upper level trough and low pressure system will continue to affect New England through Thursday.  This will mean morning sun, midday building clouds, and pop-up afternoon and early evening showers.  Highs on Wednesday will be in the middle 50s near the coast to as mild as 60F in some interior neighborhoods.  Thursday's high temps will be a couple of degrees cooler than Wednesday. Otherwise, the days could be nearly interchangeable.

As the upper level low becomes an open wave and is ejected eastward by the jetstream, an upper level ridge will make its mark here in New England.  This will be perfect timing for our 1st pitch forecast for the Red Sox Hope Opener!  Skies will become mostly sunny on Friday with highs in the upper 50s in Boston to lower 60s for some inland locales.

This weekend is all going to come down to 'timing'.  It begins with the basic ridge being more pronounced on the EURO model which is one main reason as to why it has a slower solution when speaking about a storm system.  Saturday is going to be the start of a warming trend though. Highs will be in the middle 60s to near 70F.  The GFSx and the EURO hint at the passage of a warm front anywhere from Saturday evening to early Sunday.   The GFSx has the warm front passing Saturday evening while the EURO has it passing northward during the first half of Sunday.  Then, the GFSx has a cold front slipping through the region on Sunday evening while the EURO holds it back to late-day Monday. In summary, the EURO is lagging about 18-24 hours behind the GFSx in terms of the passage of a warm front and the passage of a cold front to follow. So, there will be a chance of showers on Saturday night through Sunday morning depending on when the warm front passes north. Also, there will be a chance of showers from the cold front passing by either Sunday evening or Monday afternoon. The Boston Marathon still looks dry at the moment with highs anywhere from the 60s if the GFSx solution verifies to near 80F if the EURO is correct.  In other words, the marathoners should be hoping for the GFSx to verify in order to have more comfortable temps for running the 26.2 miles. Something in my gut tells me that the EURO is spot on though.  We will be watching this closely.

Halfway to the weekend...

~Melissa :)
