Heavy Rains Cause Problems For Worcester, Lake Quinsigamond
WORCESTER (CBS) - A third consecutive day of heavy rainfall is causing headaches across the state.
Ponding on major highways took its toll on the morning commute Thursday.
West of Boston, the city of Worcester was dealing with significant flooding issues.

Route 20 was one of several roads that needed to be shut down because it was under water.

Many residents in notoriously low-lying areas are reporting damage from basement flooding.
The rain was expected to let up later in the day.
One lasting casualty of the storm is Lake Quinsigamond. Sewage overflow dumped into the lake produced high levels of bacteria.
Worcester and Shrewsbury officials are advising area residents to stay out of the section south of the Route 9 bridge.
"Illness may occur if contaminated water is consumed, while exposure to eyes, mucous membranes and open wounds may also cause infection," said Derek Brindisi, Director of Public Health. "The bacteria in untreated sewage poses a higher risk to highly susceptible groups such as children, elderly or immune compromised.
