Doctors Rule Out Heart Attack, Stroke, Brain Tumor For John Kerry's Wife
BOSTON (CBS) - Doctors have ruled out several possibilities for what caused Secretary of State John Kerry's wife to have seizure-like symptoms over the weekend.
Teresa Heinz Kerry, 74, was rushed to a hospital on Nantucket Sunday afternoon and then transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston in critical condition after suffering some sort of medical incident.
Glen Johnson, John Kerry's personal spokesman, confirmed Tuesday that Kerry's wife had experienced "seizure-like symptoms," but added that she continues to improve and remains in fair condition at MGH.
"As evaluations continue, she, Secretary of State John Kerry, and their family are deeply grateful that physicians have ruled out a variety of possible triggers or other ailments, including heart attack, stroke, or a brain tumor," Johnson said in a statement.
"The family does not anticipate making any further statements until Mrs. Heinz Kerry is discharged from the hospital."
Johnson said the Kerry family wanted to say "a profound thank-you to everyone who has reached out and offered their best wishes."
With his wife's condition stable and improving, Johnson said Secretary Kerry will travel briefly to Washington Tuesday to open the long-planned U.S.-China Strategic & Economic Dialogue.
