Health Care Commissioner To Take Hospital Job
BOSTON (AP) - The commissioner of the Massachusetts Division of Health Care Finance and Policy is stepping down to take a job with a Boston-based company that runs six local Catholic hospitals.
David Morales, who previously served as Gov. Deval Patrick's deputy chief of staff, will work for Steward Health Care System. The company was created after Cerberus Capital Management, a New York private equity firm, bought the Caritas Christi hospitals last year.
The purpose of the Division of Health Care Finance and Policy is to provide reports and analysis of the state's health care delivery system.
Patrick praised Morales as "a dedicated public servant who has made valuable contributions to the commonwealth."
The divisions' chief operating officer Seena Carrington will serve as acting commissioner until a replacement for Morales is named.
