Firefighters were called to the Halifax Meadows condominiums at about 6 p.m. where they found the body of 70-year-old David Pierce.
Pierce, a retired teacher, had been reported missing about a week ago.
Foul play is not suspected in his death.
But, substances and a box labeled "explosives" were found near his body, so a hazardous materials team and a bomb squad were called in and the entire block of condos was evacuated.
Authorities carefully removed the items and brought them to a field where they were detonated.
The substances turned out to be common household items and neighbors were allowed to return to their homes.
