Haverhill Police Use Surveillance Cameras To Make Quick Arrest In Bank Robbery
HAVERHILL (CBS) – Haverhill police using some high-tech tools to investigate a bank robbery have made an arrest just one day after the crime.
Louis Anthony Colon, 47, who police said is homeless, faces charges in the unarmed robbery Saturday of the TD Bank North on Merrimack St. in Haverhill.
Haverhill police said detectives used bank cameras and city surveillance cameras in downtown Haverhill to follow a suspect walking from his car -- parked in a lot behind the police station – to the bank.
Inside the bank, cameras showed the suspect passing a note to a teller then fleeing with the cash before making his way back to his car all the while under the watchful eye of surveillance cameras.
Detectives set up surveillance Sunday morning and arrested Colon as he was allegedly attempting to enter the car they suspected was used in the bank robbery, police said.
Police said they believe Colon acted alone in the robbery. He will be arraigned at Haverhill District Court Monday morning.
Haverhill police said this was the fourth bank robbery in the city in the past few months and credited the kind of state of the art equipment and advanced training used in this investigation with helping them solve each one in less than 48 hours.
