Harvard Student Killed In NJ Car Accident
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (CBS/AP) — Harvard University officials say a student has died and other students have been injured in a traffic accident in New Jersey.
The fatal accident was announced to students on Monday in the following email, from Interim Undergraduate Dean Donald Pfister.
Dear Harvard College students,
I am deeply saddened to inform you that a Harvard College student died in a traffic accident in New Jersey early this morning. Other College students were in the vehicle. They were all returning to campus after participating in a competition in Virginia over the weekend. Some students suffered injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
I regret that I cannot provide more information at this point as we have not yet been able to contact the parents of this student. I expect that many of you will have learned more details by now, but contacting parents is our first obligation.
This is a terrible tragedy that has affected all of us in the College. We will provide more information as it becomes available. In the meantime, please keep the students, their families and their friends in your thoughts.
Please be aware that there are many resources available to support anyone who is particularly affected by this tragic event. For those who are having difficulty, mental health professionals at Harvard University Health Services(617-495-5711) are ready to help. Please reach out to HUHS or to those around you – your House Masters, Resident Dean, Tutor or Proctor if you are struggling. Do not remain silent. Also, please be aware of those around you who might need help and understanding.
I will be in touch with more information as soon as I am able.
Sincerely,
Dean Pfister
