Woman Hit And Killed By Flatbed Truck In Harvard Square
CAMBRIDGE (CBS) – Harvard Square is reopened after a woman in her 60s was hit and killed by a flatbed truck next to Out of Town News.
It happened Tuesday around 7 a.m. on Brattle Street.
Witnesses say the driver did not see the woman and didn't know he had hit her until people in the area flagged him down.
One witness said the woman is short, and was hit just below the Waltham Lumber flatbed truck's headlight.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said it appears the woman was crossing the street and was not in the crosswalk.
"She wasn't moving, she was on her back and on a stretcher being loaded in the back of an ambulance," witness Josh Goldman said.
The truck was parked in the road while police investigated the incident.
A truck driver who happened to be nearby said it is a difficult area to navigate.
"There are blind spots there are people out here with head phones people not paying attention and these roads were not built for trucks," said Timothy Madden.
Harvard Square was closed until approximately 2:20 p.m. Traffic was being detoured at Routes 66 and 88. Other routes in Harvard Square were also delayed due to the crash.
