Handling Insurance Questions After The Tornadoes
BOSTON (CBS) -- As people in central and western Massachusetts return to their homes after tornadoes steamed through, the state is reminding them to keep some things in mind.
Barbara Anthony, the Undersecretary of Consumer Affairs, told WBZ-TV's Paula Ebben that people should first and foremost consider safety.
"Don't reenter your home, don't reenter any building that's been damaged by these tornadoes," she said.
She also reminded people to be careful of downed power lines, and keep an eye on children and pets because they don't understand not to touch those lines.
Anthony reassures homeowners that homeowners insurance covers wind damage, which includes tornado damage.

She says homeowners should take pictures of the damage, and not attempt any permanent repairs. Anthony says it's okay to fix holes in walls or windows, but nothing more than that.
She also says homeowners should save all of their receipts through this process as they may be needed later for insurance purposes.
