Haggerty On Toucher & Rich: Rask And Khudobin 'A Pretty Good Tandem'
The Bruins were up in Buffalo to take on the Sabres on Sunday night, and looked a lot better than when these two teams met back on January 31st.
Joe Haggerty of Comcast SportsNet joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich on Monday to discuss the game, Anton Khudobin's performances and Tuukka Rask.
The first time these two teams met the Sabres blew out the Bruins 7-4, but this time the B's came out and pulled off a 3-1 win. What happened from the last meeting between these to teams to this most recent one?
"There were a few things working in their direction, but it was playing good old fashioned normal Bruins hockey again against Buffalo. They weren't worked up about things going on off the ice or worried about what John Scott was going to do, they were just going and getting the job done," said Haggs.
Backup goalie Anton Khudobin go the start on Sunday night, just his second of the season. In his two times between the pipes, Khudobin has made 58 saves while giving up just four goals. Is Khudobin as good as he seems to be, or is he a product of good defense in front of him?
"It's pretty clear watching him that he's able to make all the saves that he needs to make and he's got the talent to be an NHL goaltender," said Haggerty. "The Bruins have themselves a pretty good tandem between Tuukka Rask and Anton Khudobin this year and it looks like they're going to be perfectly fine between the pipes and that's not a concern at all."
Could Haggerty see Khudobin staying and not heading over to the KHL, or is he a guy that the Bruins might want to extend and keep around for another year?
"I think if he has success in the NHL, the money he can make here -- as a goalie especially -- if somehow he can go from backup to a guy who gets a shot somewhere to start that would be incentive for him to stay," said Haggs.
Haggerty told T&R that Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli has stated the team wants to and will extend Tuukka Rask's contract this year, and Haggs wouldn't be surprised if Khudobin gets an extension as well.
They also discussed Haggerty's prediction from Friday that is storm wouldn't be as bad as it was being reported to be and that the Bruins would be playing on Saturday at some point.
