Haggerty On Toucher & Rich: Bourque Has Had Plenty Of Time To Get On Track
The Bruins went down to North Carolina and beat the Hurricanes 5-3 on Monday night to continue there hot start to the season. The B's are at the top of the Eastern Conference with a 4-0-1 record and will host the 3-0-1 New Jersey Devils at the Garden Tuesday night.
Comcast SportsNet's Joe Haggerty joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich to discuss the team's great start to the season so far, Patrice Bergeron going at it with Jeff Skinner, Chris Bourque, Gregory Campbell and what team has been the most surprising.
At the end of the Bruins-Hurricanes game Patrice Bergeron got into it with Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner. The players got tangled up at the end of the game, and Bergeron was taken down. What went on to get Bergeron to drop the gloves?
"It had to be something that Bergeron took major umbrage with because you don't see him do something like that unless someone was really doing something untoward and something they shouldn't have been."
Everything has been looking pretty good for the Bruins so far this season, so the guys turned their attention so something that hasn't gone so well. Chris Bourque has played regular time in the first five games and hasn't recorded a goal or assist yet. How has Bourque handled his time here so far?
"He's had flashes where he's been decent, I thought his game against the Islanders was pretty good, but you just look at the production. There's no points, there's a couple of shots in five games and here's been an ample chance now with a lot of ice time and some power play minutes, plenty of them actually, in all of these games to get on track to show his skill offensively."
Gregory Campbell got pretty banged up in the game against Carolina getting kicked out of the face off circle for openly bleeding. Is there a chance the team sits him down and brings up a guy like Jordan Caron to give Campbell a rest?
"If the refs are telling you to get off the ice because you're bleeding that profusely and you can't take a face off then you're definitely gashed up a little bit. I'm not sure if that puts him in danger of playing tonight, he's a fourth line guy if he can play he's going to play."
Plus, what team in the East has surprised Haggerty the most so far in this shortened season?
