Haggerty On Bruins: 'November's Over & They're Slowing Down'
The Bruins lost their second straight after they fell 2-0 to the Florida Panthers on Thursday night at the Garden. Panthers goaltender Jose Theodore stopped 40 shots, Tomas Kopecky broke a scoreless tie with 2:32 left and Kris Versteeg added an empty-net goal with 42 seconds left to put the nail in the Bruins coffin.
Unfortunately for the Bruins they not only lost the game they lost a player as well. Daniel Paille left Thursday's game after being hit by Florida's Kris Barch in the first period and did not return.
Toucher & Rich were joined by Joe Haggerty to discuss the Bruins, the loss to the Panthers, Daniel Paille's possible concussion and Tyler Seguin being scratched in Winnipeg.
Tyler seguin was a healthy scratch for the game in Winnipeg because he miss a morning team meeting. He paid his due and was back on the ice against the Panthers, but people are still talking about the young center. Does Haggerty think people were making too big a deal about what happened?
"I think at some point people went way overboard with it which is what happens with any situation like this in Boston when it comes to sports *cough* Fleger. I think there was a respectable level of attention to it and I think the Bruins wanted there to be attention to it and wanted people to talk about it and wanted a little bit of pressure to be thrown on Seguin when the announced it publicly," Haggerty said.
They also discussed the Bruins signing first-round draft pick Dougie Hamilton entry-level contract.
"He's having a great year in junior hockey, he's really busted out. He's having a good offensive year, they don't expect him to be this offensive force when he comes to the NHL level, but he's got the potential to be a number one number two defenseman which means he could have the offensive upside of maybe a Chara at his best as far as putting up some points," said Haggerty.
In the first period Florida's Kris Barch hit Daniel Paille which forced Paille to leave the game and not return. What's Pialle's status and could Barch be suspended or fined for the hit?
"I think the hit was clean. He took a run at him for sure Kris Barch he really was sending a message. That was the first shift that guy has taken in his career with the Panthers he had just come over from the Dallas Stars. So it was pretty clear that as a fourth line kind of enforcer type guy he was looking to make an impression with his new team and Daniel Paille was the victim there. It was a clean hit, but he looked wobbly when he got up. I'm assuming he's going to have a concussion," Haggerty said.
