Haggerty: Hall, Oshie & Stewart Great Fits For Bruins

BOSTON (CBS) - There's a lot of discussion in NHL circles regarding the Boston Bruins, and how general manager Peter Chiarelli is working the phones to try and swing a deal to improve his team.

On Thursday morning, 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich had on Joe Haggerty of Comcast SportsNet New England to talk about some potential trade partners and targets, and what it would take to land each player.

Edmonton Oilers LW Taylor Hall

Scouting Report: "I think [Hall] would be a really good fit for the Bruins. People made the Tyler Seguin comparison, but the truth is Taylor Hall is 6-foot-1, 200 pounds and he has a little bit of grit and power to his game. He's not quite a power forward, but he doesn't shy away from working on the boards or some of those things that would endear him to the Bruins. He also has the potential to be a 30 goal scorer if he's working with a good center. He's a potential franchise player."

What It Would Take: "Realistically, I don't know there's much of a chance to get Hall this season. A big trade like that would probably have to come in the summertime if you're [Oilers GM] Craig MacTavish and want to get the most value. What you know about Edmonton is they love Milan Lucic and they love Dougie Hamilton. Above and beyond anybody else, it would have to be one of those two players included in the deal, and a goaltender -- I think Malcolm Subban is a guy that makes a lot of sense. I would expect it would take either Lucic or Hamilton, Malcolm Subban and probably another player or two to start to make the numbers work."

St. Louis Blues RW T.J. Oshie

Scouting Report: "The Bruins have been heavily scouting the St. Louis Blues. I think he's a guy they're definitely looking at as a right wing solution. He plays a lot bigger than he is. He sort of plays a rugged style. Obviously he has a lot of skill, which we saw in the shootout in the Olympics for Team USA. He could definitely help the Bruins in a lot of areas."

What It Would Take: "St. Louis would be trading T.J. Oshie because they're up against the salary cap, and Vladimir Tarasenko is a guy that they have to sign going forward. [Tarasenko] has obviously exploded, and they're going to need money to sign him. I would expect it would take the Bruins somebody with a lesser salary on their roster, and also draft picks and prospects, because the Blues aren't looking to take on a lot of salary. The Blues have a lot of quality defenseman, so I think Dougie Hamilton would be a non-starter. Maybe you're talking Reilly Smith and a couple other pieces."

Buffalo Sabres RW Chris Stewart

Scouting Report: "I think this makes sense as a move they might make. It's sort of a band aid for this year. He's a guy that's scored 28 goals in the past. He's 6-foot-2, 230 pounds and when he's motivated -- and that's the big if with him -- he plays a hard style and certainly has a lot of talent."

What It Would Take: "You're talking about a mid-level prospect and maybe another player. I don't think it would take top players, or a top prospect to get him. The value just isn't there. I don't think they would have to give up a lot to get a player like that. Buffalo wouldn't be selling high on Chris Stewart right now. The Bruins don't want to pay a heavy price for that player, and I don't blame them."
