Gronkowski, Welker Vying For Patriots' Nominee For Madden Cover
BOSTON (CBS) -- Could either Wes Welker or Rob Gronkowski be in line to be cursed?
The two players are the Patriots' nominees to be on the cover of Madden 13, the annual NFL video game that's featured a different player on the cover for the past 14 years. Last year, the cover athlete, Peyton Hillis, was chosen by a vote, and the franchise is again leaving this year's star to be decided by fans.
There's a twist, though. Each team has two nominees, with fans voting for one player to represent the team. For the Patriots, that's the 22-year-old Gronkowski and 30-year-old Welker.
You can vote on every team's representative on the Madden SportsNation Facebook page.
Patriots fans who believe in curses may want to vote for other teams' players when the first round is completed. Michael Vick, Marshall Faulk, Shaun Alexander, Troy Polamalu and Hillis all experienced varying degrees of bad fortune after appearing on the game's cover.
One other interesting Madden cover note as it relates to the Patriots is that free-agent wide receiver Brandon Lloyd appears as an option for the St. Louis Rams.
