Gronkowski Set For Surgery On Forearm; No Plans To Operate On Back
BOSTON (CBS) -- An NFL source has told WBZ-TV that Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will have a fourth surgery performed on his forearm on Monday.
The hopes are doctors will not find any lingering infection from a plate they inserted to help it heal, but won't know if there is any infection until test results come back a week or so after the surgery is performed.
Also, there are currently no plans to perform any back surgery or procedure, the source said. USA Today reported this weekend that Gronkowski may need surgery to repair a damaged disc in his back.
There won't be any timetable for Gronkowski's return until after the forearm surgery. Initial hopes were that even if Gronkowski was to miss any time during training camp that he would be fine to start the regular season.
The Patriots begin OTAs (organized team activities) on Monday.
